Cannabidiol, or CBD, has been catapulted from a relatively unknown remedy to one that’s said to help with all manner of conditions, from anxiety to chronic pain in recent years.

There is evidence that it can help people who suffer from anxiety to deal with their symptoms, but what do you need to know before you buy CBD oil for anxiety?

The team at Well and Good have put together a helpful article about what we know about CBD oil, and how it can help those who suffer from anxiety.

According to Dr J.H. Atkinson, from the Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research at the University of California, who spoke to the publication, one of the main things to note is that there is currently little “rigorous scientific research” into the therapeutic effects of CBD.

However, he added that the early research that’s been carried out indicates that CBD could be helpful in treating anxiety.

Before you start searching for places to buy CBD oil, however, you should speak to anyone who’s currently involved in helping treat your anxiety, whether that’s your doctor or another mental health professional, Cayla Rosenblum, a healthcare informatics specialist, advised.

One area where CBD could be especially useful is in treating social anxiety, Ms Rosenblum noted, pointing to a small-scale study which found that CBD helped reduce stress in both people with social anxiety disorder and those without when in social situations.  Dr Andrew Thornber, chief medical officer at Now Patient, recently told the Express that initial findings from research indicate that CBD oil offers all the benefits of anti-anxiety medications, but without the side effects.
