If you’ve always been active and already have an exercise routine, you could be forgiven for thinking that you’ll lose all of that when you become pregnant. But having a baby doesn’t have to mean you stop exercising.

One person who certainly has no intention of being inactive during her pregnancy is fitness guru Kayla Itsines. She recently revealed that she’s 20 weeks pregnant with her first child and has been talking about how being pregnant has led to changes in her exercise routine.

In an interview with Women’s Health she revealed that she suffered from sickness in the first 16 weeks of her pregnancy and “felt really tired”.

Kayla went on to say that she’s trying to stay as active as possible during her pregnancy, but is changing up her routines. She’s well known for her high-intensity workouts, but revealed that she’s taking a step back from these.

“I’ve increased the amount of low-intensity cardio I’ve been doing and reduced the amount of high-intensity exercise,” she told the magazine.

Walking features heavily in her daily routine, she added, and said that she’s reducing the weights she’s using in her workouts, as well as avoiding ab exercises and jumping.

Kayla also said that she’s “listening to my body and doing what feels comfortable and right”. That’s really important, regardless of what level of activity you’re doing while pregnant.

A recent article for Female First pointed out that it’s best to stick to exercise you’re familiar with when you’re pregnant, rather than trying something completely new, and to adjust the intensity accordingly.
