As the nation continues to live in lockdown, forcing salons to remain shut, many ladies have been wondering if they will need to remove their hair extensions on their own.

Women all over the UK will be pining for haircuts and beauty treatments after several weeks of having to take care of their hair, skin and nails by themselves. Indeed, a recent survey by beauty treatment booking service Treatwell revealed that beauty salons are in the top three destinations people will head to once lockdown has been lifted, such is the urgency to get professional treatment for thousands of women out there.

While you can file your nails yourself, pluck your own eyebrows and even try dyeing roots, removing hair extensions can be trickier to do alone.

Celebrity hair dresser Patrick Wilson spoke to Glamour Magazine, giving ladies all over the country advice on whether they need to remove their hair extensions, and how they should go about doing it if they do.

“On average, and if you’re taking good care of them, tape-ins last up to four to eight weeks, and protein-bonded extensions last six to eight weeks,” he stated.

“Some clients do keep them in for longer, depending on the rate their hair grows or aftercare, but you would usually know if your extensions are ready for a refit as they have grown away from the head and could start to slip when cleansing the hair or blow drying,” the expert commented.

He recommended giving your salon a call for some advice on how to remove them safely, as they are most likely to know what is best for you and your type of hair.
