Climate change and the state of the planet is always in the news these days and we all have a responsibility to reduce our impact in as many ways as we can in order to protect our natural resources and life as we know it.

To mark World Environment Day last year, the UN published a report calling for definitive action in order to tackle the problem of plastic pollution head on. And in a statement, secretary-general Antonio Guterres said that everyone has a role to play when it comes to protecting the only home we have.

“Our world is swamped by harmful plastic waste,” he was quoted by the Independent as saying at the time. “From remote islands to the Arctic, nowhere is untouched. If present trends continue, by 2050 our oceans will have more plastic than fish.”

So what can we do to help when it comes to our health and beauty regimes? Take a look at your dressing table and your shower shelf and assess just how much plastic there is. Is there anyway that this can be reduced?

Evaluating just where your skincare regimen is right now is your very first step towards making a few key changes here and there. Of course, you don’t want to just chuck everything in the bin and start again – being wasteful isn’t the answer here.

Use everything up first and then think about what substitutes you could bring in that would be better for the environment – and, potentially, better for you as well.

You’re sure to have heard about the war on microbeads that is now going on, with countries all over the world considering a ban on these little plastic pieces that are commonly found in cosmetics and personal care products.

They’re meant to serve as exfoliators but they’re not especially great for your skin (and can potentially cause scarring if you scrub your face too hard) and they’re terrible for the environment too, since they’re so small they inevitably end up in our oceans and lakes. So if you have any products with these in them, try to avoid them in the future.

Doing your research and taking proper care when choosing your products is also wise. Just because something is marketed as being eco-friendly and made using natural ingredients doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily great for you or the environment so check out some brands and make a list of those you believe to be genuine and which ones you’re happy to spend your money with.

Handmade Naturals natural body products are all borne out of a passion for healthy skin and body, as well as recognition that the majority of high street brands come with chemicals and additives that could be very harmful.

Now you’re able to care for both skin and hair without the use of toxic chemicals! Their products are also cruelty-free and are 100 per cent against animal testing, so you can rest easy knowing that you’re not harming any living creature in the pursuit of perfect skin.
