As the coronavirus sweeps through the UK, two major beauty brands, Dior Beauty and Mac Cosmetics UK have enforced a strict ‘No Touch’ policy across all their stores and beauty counters, to ensure the health and safety of staff and customers, according to The Independent.
An email, sent to all Mac Cosmetics UK staff, stated that in-store makeup artists must not use their own brushes, or wear a brush belt. The screenshot of the email shared on Twitter, said that staff were no longer permitted to “touch or apply makeup on a customer”.
It continued, saying that all makeover appointments would be cancelled, and customers must make use of disposable applicators if using provided in-store samples.
A number of Mac Cosmetics UK stores had been contacted by The Independent, to get confirmation of the new measures. One staff member said: “The measures have been introduced to ensure health and safety, however, customers are still welcome to come into store where we can assist with helping them choose the right products.
“The policy was communicated to Mac Cosmetics staff and the whole of Estee Lauder Companies yesterday.”
It was noted that there was no time scale communicated about the new policy, but that it would be “revised and looked at accordingly”.
Dior Beauty has also “instigated a ‘no-touch’ policy for all counter staff and cancelled all beauty events in-store”, according to a company spokesperson.
UK Chief Medical Officers have raised the risk to the public from low to moderate and suggested that in the coming weeks Britons with cold, flu or fever symptoms could be asked to stay at home in self-isolation.
